All marks are rounding marks except those in a box, which are passing marks. Red marks are rounded or passed to port, green to starboard. The number to the right of a course is the length in nautical miles the club prints for it, which allows for beating and for the legs to and from marks the card cannot place — not the sum of the legs below. Select a course to draw it on the chart: its legs are numbered in sailing order, a leg sailed again is drawn beside the first, and a ring shows the side each mark is left on.

Start line

SLStart lineA number of Start/ Finish lines may be used. These include: 26.1 Grassy Walk Line (ICF ‘G’). The starting line shall be formed by a Red & White pole in front of the hut at the Grassy Walk and an ODM. The ODM is Buoy C1 (Cage) Green Conical OR A LAID Club Mark. The finish line will be between the rearmost pole and the ODM or between the CV and the ODM. 26.2 Committee Vessel (CV). The Start and Finish line will be formed between a Red and White staff on the CV and an Inflatable Buoy or Navigation Buoy as indicated by the CV. 26.3 If the Race Officer is absent when a boat finishes, she should report to the Race committee her finishing time and her position in relation to nearby boats at the first reasonable opportunity.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• These notes, directions, and courses form part of the Sailing Instructions for the Royal Cork Yacht Club Keelboat racing fleet.

• The Race Officer may choose any Course Number with suitable amending instructions.

• Course 75 & 83 to be used at Spring High water only.

• Consider for course 80 option to drop the Dutchman if wind is light of an evening or for non-spinnaker classes.

* Course recommended to minimize crossing of the shipping channel where * is shown with course number. All Course straight line distances are cumulative.

** When Grassy Walk Line is in use, please insert Dosco (P) (aka “Corkbeg”) as Mark 1 where ** is shown with course number. Course recommended for a committee boat start to minimise crossing of the shipping Channell where a blue dot is shown with the course number.

COMMITTEE VESSEL

• The start and finish line shall be formed by a Red & White pole on the Committee Vessel (CV) and a ‘laid’ club racing mark or adjacent Navigation Buoy, as the outer distance mark (ODM) .

• Race Officer will advise competitors of ODM in use on the club racing VHF channel (see Sailing Instructions) prior to the warning signal.

• An inner distance mark may be used.

GRASSY WALK LINE

(may be indicated by flying ICF ‘G’ from the Club flagstaff) .

• The starting line shall be formed by a Red & White pole in front of the hut at the Grassy Walk and an ODM.

• Cage Buoy (C1) will be the ODM unless a laid club racing mark is laid, in which case this shall be the ODM.

• Race Officer will draw competitors’ attention to alternate ODM on the club racing VHF channel (see Sailing Instructions) prior to the warning signal.

• The finishing line ODM will be Cage Buoy (C1). Committee Boat starts shall be in the area of Cage Buoy (C1), No.8 or the Dosco (Corkbeg) mark. If SHORTENED COURSE is signalled at Cage Buoy (C1), then Cage Buoy (C1) shall be left to Starboard.
